How to prepare your computer for Windows 10 Fall Creators Update!

This Tuesday (17) Microsoft makes the official and worldwide release of the new Windows 10 Fall Creators Update. This is yet another massive update of the operating system that promises design changes, additional features and new embedded software. Users enrolled in the Windows Insider program were able to download trial versions in advance with the new features and now the update is starting to reach all Windows 10 users on Windows Update.

At TechNOWGuide, Gustavo Lang, director of Windows for Microsoft Brazil, explains how to prepare the computer to receive the update and what are the minimum requirements for the new version of Windows 10 to run smoothly on your machine.

Minimum installation requirements for Windows 10 Fall Creators

    Features Specifications
1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster processor or SoC
RAM 1 gigabyte (GB) to 32-bit or 2 GB to 64-bit
16 GB hard disk space (HD) for a 32-bit OS or 20 GB for a 64-bit OS
DirectX 9 or later graphics card with WDDM 1.0 driver
    Screen resolution 800 × 600 pixels
Before anything else, it's important to check if you have at least the latest version of Windows 7 SP1 or Windows 8.1 Update - Windows 8 (pure) users need to upgrade their computers to version 8.1. If you do not know which Windows you are running, you can check your computer's settings.

You can download the service pack (SP1) at this link: support.microsoft.com.
Or upgrade from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1: support.microsoft.com/2919355.

For those who are already running Windows 10, it is necessary that the computer is also up to date with Windows Update and that the machine has the Windows 10 Creators Update version, to receive the newest Fall Creators Update.

If you have already checked if your computer has the minimum requirements, see other details that may interfere with updating your personal machine.

TechNOWguide: Does the update reach all users at the same time?

Microsoft: Yes, it will be available from October 17 for all users through Windows Update. To make it easier to use Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, users have the freedom to schedule updates in the most convenient way, avoiding interruption of the workflow [since it is necessary to restart the machine and interrupt tasks].

Lang points out that the function, which gives the owner of the machine the chance to schedule without out-of-hours updates, was the result of user feedback. "Many of the items that are changed in these updates are suggestions or recommendations from this large community of Windows Insiders, people who from the beginning have been helping us build a better and better system," he said.

In earlier versions of Microsoft's operating system, such as Windows 7, Windows 8 and 8.1, users could already schedule the installation of updates, with the option to defer to a different time. Now the feature is also present in Windows 10, and more clearly and easily.

TNG: Do I have to pay for the update?

Microsoft: The Windows 10 Fall Creators update will be available for free to all customers running Windows 10 and will automatically install based on customers' "Update Settings". An Internet connection is still required to perform the upgrade.

TNG: irregular (unlicensed / pirated) operating systems will be able to download it?

Microsoft: No. You must have the original copy of Windows 10.

TNG: What is the minimum software requirement?

Microsoft: In Windows 10, you must have the latest version (Update for Creators).

TNG: Do you need to back up the data or does the update maintain the files?

    .

Some devices with little available free space or smaller hard drives (HDs), such as 32 GB storage computers, may have little free space available also after upgrading. You can free up disk space and easily delete items such as temporary files or the earlier version of Windows within the Storage System setting.
